'Web Nasri’, the Japanese underdog

  • Heading to the FIFA eWorld Cup for the second year in a row?

  • Solid performances in the Global Series 2019

  • Profiling 'Web Nasri’ ahead of the play-offs

Had you asked the experts after last year’s Grand Final who would go on to repeat the feat and qualify again for the FIFA eWorld Cup™, you would have got a host of different answers. 'Web Nasri' would likely not have been among them, however. The man from Japan was the real surprise package last year, getting through to the FIFA eWorld Cup 2018 against all odds. Would he prove to be a one-hit wonder?

Surprise package of the Global Series 2018

2 June 2018 is a date that will live long in the Japanese player’s memory. Proving his worth in the play-offs and upsetting the odds to make it through to the FIFA eWorld Cup 2018 was not enough for him – the man from Japan maintained his focus the following day to defeat former finalists 'TheStrxngeR' and 'Boras' to nab the fourth PlayStation seed for the final.

He then held his own in Group C against the likes of 'Nicolas99FC' and the previous year’s runner-up 'StefanoPinna', but had to be content with four points from a win, a draw and three defeats, spelling an end to his tournament. He certainly created a favourable impression however, leading him to be picked up by Yokohama F. Marinos eSports.

'Web Nasri' then went on to underline his quality in the Global Series 2019. Right from the very first tournament of the season – the SONY Continental Cup – he made it through to the quarter-finals, picking up his first points for the FIFA 19 Global Series Rankings before losing to eventual winner 'Joksan'.

The man from Japan continued to impress throughout the season, putting in good performances including a runner-up finish at the Gfinity LQE and qualification for the eChampions League group stage. He also took part in two of the five FUT Champions Cups this season, getting as high as No.22 at one point.
