Guadalajara edge slim advantage over New York

A lone strike from Isaac Brizuela has given Chivas Guadalajara a slim advantage after the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semi-final against New York Red Bulls on Wednesday.

The home side broke the deadlock midway through the opening half when Rodolfo Pizarro gained possession in New York’s defensive third and fed Brizuela for what proved to be the winner.

The MLS side will have the opportunity to turn things around on home soil next week, but they will be without defender Aurelian Colin who was sent off in the latter stages after receiving a second caution.

The winner will meet either Toronto FC or Club America in the decider, with the Canadians earning a 3-1 home victory in the opening leg on Tuesday.

The continental champion will compete in the FIFA Club World Cup later this year in the United Arab Emirates.
