Gremio close in on final

Gremio have one foot in the Copa Libertadores final after a comprehensive 3-0 first-leg win at Ecuador’s Barcelona on Wednesday.

The Brazilian side raced to a two-goal advantage inside the opening 21 minutes, and Luan completed a brace early in the second half, with Edilson also on the scoresheet.

Winner of two Copa Libertadores (1983 and 1995), Gremio are looking to play in their fifth final.

River Plate collected a 1-0 win over fellow Argentine’s Lanus in Tuesday’s other semi-final.

The Cope Libertadores winner will represent South America in December’s FIFA Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
