Grand Final line-up complete

  • 32-player line-up for FIWC 2017 Grand Final now complete

  • FICWC rounds off high-class qualification competition

  • There will be a new name on the trophy in 2017

The last two of the 32 qualifiers for the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2017 Grand Final were revealed on Saturday, at the inaugural FIFA Interactive Club World Cup, which brought the curtain down on an outstanding qualification competition.

From Paris to LondonThe qualifiers began back in November 2016, with gamers around the world targeting one sole objective: to earn a place at one of the Season 1 regional finals, which took place in Paris, Sydney and Miami. Season 2 then followed, featuring not one but two regional finals in Vancouver and a third in Madrid.

The gamers still standing after those events found themselves en route not for London but Berlin and the FIFA 17 Ultimate Team Championship, where France’s “Vitality RocKy” emerged victorious and the first eight Grand Final slots were filled.

Meanwhile, the winners of the Season 3 regional finals in Munich, Doha and Los Angeles went straight through to the Grand Final, where they will be joined by FICWC victors “Expectsporting” and “OL Rafsou”, who claimed the last two tickets to the main event.

A new champion With the line-up now complete, one thing is certain: a new world champion will be crowned this year, with none of the former FIWC winners making their way through to the 2017 Grand Final. That means that no one will be emulating two-time champs Bruce Grannec of France (2009 and 2013) and Alfonso Ramos of Spain (2008 and 2012), an indication of the exceptionally high standards seen on the consoles this year.
