Concacaf's road to gold revealed

  • Draw for 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup held in Miami

  • Regional derbies include USA against Canada; Honduras to meet Panama

  • Three nations for 16-team field still to be determined

The road to continental glory in the New World has become clearer after the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup draw took place in Miami on Monday evening.

The pre-determined seeded teams were Mexico in Group A, USA in Group B, Costa Rica in Group C and Honduras in Group D.

Holders Mexico will face Curacao, El Salvador and a Concacaf Nations League qualifier from among Cuba, French Guyana, Montserrat or Trinidad and Tobago

Group B promises a fascinating North American derby with USA to tackle Canada, with the section made up by Martinique and one of Barbados, Bermuda, Haiti or St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Costa Rica will meet Jamaica, Suriname and either Bahamas, Guadeloupe, Guatemala or Guyana.

Group D offers an intriguing quartet comprising three-time World Cup contestants Honduras, Russia 2018 participants Panama, Grenada and guest nation Qatar.

Twelve teams had already won their way through to the 16-team competition, namely Canada, Costa Rica, Curacao, El Salvador, Grenada, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Suriname and USA.

Three more teams will be determined by the Gold Cup preliminaries, with the field completed by FIFA World Cup 2022™ hosts and reigning AFC Asian Cup hosts Qatar.
