FIFA President meets President of Uruguay Luis Lacalle Pou in Doha
Discussions focus on football development and inspiration of history
Uruguay won the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930, adding a second title in 1950
FIFA President Gianni Infantino called upon the double FIFA World Cup™ winning achievements of Uruguay on meeting the country’s President Luis Lacalle Pou and called for continued strong collaboration to foster the foundations for football’s future.
The meeting focused on the importance of FIFA and the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) working together to bolster the impact of football in the country, such as by increasing opportunities to shine on the field and fortifying the impression that the sport can have on wider society.
Uruguay won the first edition of the FIFA World Cup in 1930, following that with a second triumph in Brazil 20 years later. Both presidents noted that through a commitment to continued partnership, the grounds for progression of both men’s and women’s football will be boosted.
