Almoez Ali equalled the record for most goals scored by one player in a single AFC Asian Cup match by netting four as Qatar advanced to the knockout stage after a commanding victory over Korea DPR.

Felix Sanchez Bas’s side will be joined in the Round of 16 by Japan and Uzbekistan who beat Oman and Turkmenistan respectively on Sunday. FIFA.com looks back on another matchday at the Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Korea DPR 0-6 Qatar, Group E Khalifa bin Zayed Stadium, Al Ain

Qatar followed up on their opening win against Lebanon with a high-scoring victory over Korea DPR – their biggest ever win at the tournament. Almoez Ali kicked off the goal-fest with a quickfire double in the first half, while Boualem Khoukhi’s header on 43 minutes ensured Qatar went into the break with a three-goal lead.

Ali netted a third ten minutes after the restart and recorded his fourth on the hour-mark, before left-back Abdulkarim Hasan Fadlalla made it six by slotting past goalkeeper Ri Myong-guk after a valiant solo run. Korea DPR’s Jong Il-Gwan was sent off in injury time after being shown a second yellow card.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup hosts face Saudi Arabia - also assured of a place in the Round of 16 - to decide who takes top spot in Group E on Thursday.

Oman 0-1 Japan, Group F Zayed Sports City Stadium, Abu Dhabi

Four-time Asian Cup winners Japan made it two wins from two at UAE 2019 with a victory over Oman. The Samurai Blue started brightly and after Takumi Minamino and Ritsu Doan had efforts denied, Hajime Moriyasu's men were awarded a penalty when Genki Haraguchi was brought down inside the area by Raed Saleh.

Haraguchi stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, firing his penalty-kick past Faiyz Al Rashidi. Substitute Junya Ito came close to doubling Japan’s lead on 89 minutes but was denied by a strong stop from Al Rashidi. The result means Japan – excluding penalty shoot-outs – extend their record of only losing once in their last 30 Asian Cup games.

Turkmenistan 0-4 Uzbekistan, Group F Rashid Stadium, Dubai

Qatar and Japan were joined in the Round of 16 by Hector Cuper's Uzbekistan, who also booked their place in the knockouts after a 4-0 victory over Turkmenistan in a game in which all the goals were scored in the first half. Javokhir Sidikov gave the goal-hungry White Wolves the lead on 17 minutes before Eldor Shomurodov doubled the advantage.

Jaloliddin Masharipov made it three on 40 minutes, while Shomurodov registered his second of the day shortly before the break. Japan and Uzbekistan will go head to head in Al Ain on Thursday to decide who will take Group F's top spot.
