A tournament of firsts for women in the Gulf region

This week in Kuwait the first ever women’s futsal tournament in the region took place. Organised as part of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Women’s Games, the futsal tournament included women’s national teams from United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

It was the first time ever that a Saudi women’s national team was taking part in an official international competition in a sign of the recent progress made by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation in the development of women’s football.

The futsal tournament started on Sunday 27 October and concluded on Wednesday 30 October with the victory of Bahrain and the Saudi team finishing third and winning their first match ever in an official competition against hosts Kuwait.
