Francisco Cruz: The youngest champion of all time

  • Profile of the 2011 winner

As this year’s FIFA eWorld Cup™ gets ever closer, we take a look back at some of the legends who have picked up eFootball’s most prestigious title in recent years. The top 32 players from the FIFA 19 Global Series will be looking to follow in their footsteps, but only one of them will get to raise the coveted EA SPORTS FIFA 19 Season trophy aloft.

FIFA Interactive World Cup 2011 champion Francisco Cruz meets Barcelona's Lionel Messi in Zurich. Cruz was in Zurich, Switzerland for the FIFA Ballon d'Or 2011 Gala.

Two years prior to that, Cruz had already showcased his exceptional talent by taking third place in the Grand Final, and at 14 was the youngest ever Grand Finalist at a FIFA Interactive World Cup at the time, back in 2009.

He achieved his dream of the ultimate title in Los Angeles in 2011, and today he remains the youngest ever champion since the very first version of the FIFA eWorld Cup. He earned his spot at the Grand Final in Los Angeles via a local qualifier in Warsaw, Poland, and after three tough days in LA he made it through to the Final Showdown against Colombia’s Javier Munoz, whom he defeated 4-1. The Portuguese player went unbeaten throughout the entire tournament and was a worthy winner of the first ever trophy for his country.

He returned to the biggest of stages in 2017, representing Sporting CP eSports at the inaugural FIFA Interactive Club World Cup.
