Education & technical
The objective of any FIFA development activity is to ultimately improve the football experience of those who wish to play the game. Building the skills and capacities of the individuals responsible for providing this football experience is therefore key to this objective.
Coaches, referees, instructors and other stakeholders in the technical sphere, as well as their umbrella entity, a federation’s technical direction, can be supported by FIFA in a number of ways – capacity-building courses, seminars, consultancies, mentoring. FIFA also offers support to their activities, by providing sporting equipment and financial support on a case by case basis.
Member Associations courses
FIFA offers up to 3 courses per year to its Member Associations on diverse areas such as elite coaching, youth coaching, goalkeeper coaching (including physical and tactical preparation, goalkeeping for beginner level), physical preparation, women’s football, futsal and beach soccer.
The service includes the assignment of a high-level FIFA instructor, a fixed sum of USD 5 000 for the costs incurred to organise the course, and Adidas equipment for the participants.
FIFA’s Grassroots programme helps member associations in setting up their grassroots level development programmes while training local coaches-educators to the specifics of teaching grassroots football (for boys and girls from age 6 to 12). The programme also covers the organisation of festivals for kids to participate, and provides equipment for the coaches and the kids.
FIFA’s Women’s football development programmes encompass a wide array of initiatives – from courses to build the skills of female coaches locally, to the support of promotional activities to raise the profile of the women’s game while enticing young girls to play football, including support to local women’s football competitions through courses, equipment and financial support. FIFA also helps the national associations by providing consultancy to improve the administrative side of the organisation of women’s football countrywide.
FIFA supports the development of futsal at the member association level by organising courses for coaches, providing consultancy for the long term development of the sport, and supporting futsal competitions by donating equipment.
FIFA supports the development of beach soccer at the member association level by organising courses for coaches, providing consultancy for the long term development of the sport, and supporting futsal competitions by donating equipment and material for the installation of beach soccer pitches.
In addition to the youth coaching courses FIFA can provide, support is granted on a conditional basis for the creation or optimisation of domestic youth football competitions. The support includes equipment, financial contributions, and consultancy.
