A CIES delegation visited Palestine from 23 to 25 February with the aim of discussing the organisation of the FIFA/CIES Programme of Sport Management with the Bir Zeit University in Ramallah.

The delegation met Dr Nabeel Kassis, President of the Bir Zeit University, Dr Jibril Al Rajoub, President of the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) as well as representatives of the ministry of sport and the ministry of education. Several fruitful meetings lead to the decision to finalise the project which is supported financially by FIFA. The first programme should start in November 2009.

"We are delighted to be associated with a genuine international network that already comprises 9 universities and will grow in the coming years" stated Dr Kassis. "Palestine needs such projects. They will enable us to develop a sport culture that almost does not exist here".

During a workshop organised under the auspices of the PFA and the Bir Zeit University, CIES had the opportunity to meet some of the main actors in Palestinian sport, and to identify their particular needs. The participants underlined the great interest of CIES philosophy to adapt modern management tools to local realities.
