Andre Zambo Anguissa’s fine form for Marseille was unlikely to go unnoticed by the Cameroon backroom staff for much longer. After having been spotted by L'OM when he was still part of his country’s U-20 squad, the Yaounde-born midfielder enjoyed a successful first-team debut in a UEFA Europa League match in late 2015. Anguissa was quick to grasp his opportunity, drawing inspiration from his idols, Abou Diaby and Lassana Diarra, to put in determined and diligent performances that secured him a regular slot in the Ligue 1 side’s starting XI.
He has continued to impress, demonstrating physical strength, a strong mental attitude and a capacity for self-improvement that augur well for the rest of his career. A product of Coton Sport’s youth set-up, the young African got his first taste of senior international football in a friendly with Tunisia in March 2017. His work ethic and ability to pop up in the right place at the right time may see him exert a considerable influence on Cameroon’s play at the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017.
