One of the younger members of Australia’s FIFA Confederations Cup squad, 20-year-old Ajdin Hrustic had yet to make his senior international debut before being named in Ange Postecoglou's 30-man preliminary squad for Russia 2017. While on the Socceroos’ radar for a while – having featured for the U-23 side earlier this year – Hrustic really caught Postecoglou’s eye after impressing for Dutch Eredivisie side FC Groningen.

A central attacking midfielder who can also be employed as a left winger, Hrustic was at German outfit Schalke 04 before making the move to Groningen in 2014. The exciting youngster made his senior debut for the Eredivisie club at the beginning of April 2017 and hit the ground running, netting his first goal in the same month. The Melbourne native counts Germany’s Leroy Sane – ruled out of the Confederations Cup due to injury – as one of his closest friends, whom he met during his Schalke playing days.
