Midfielder Pizzi was born in the north-east of Portugal and signed his first professional contract with Braga at the age of 18. He spent four years there, but was loaned out for much of that time. This included a spell at Pacos Ferreira and a loan stint at Atletico Madrid in 2011, who took up an option to buy him in October 2012, only to send him out to Deportivo La Coruna for the duration of the 2012/13 season.

That summer, he signed a six-year deal with Benfica, who promptly loaned him out to Espanyol. Since 2014, however, Pizzi has been back at Benfica, with the only changes from that point being his conversion from a winger to a central midfielder, where he quickly made himself one of the first names on the team sheet week in, week out. He made his full international debut in November 2012 in a friendly against Gabon, but has since not managed to carve out a place in the squad or be in the running for any major tournaments.
