A member of the side that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup Peru 2005 – a competition he ended as the leading scorer – and a two-time winner of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Carlos Vela is one of Mexico’s key players. A left-footed forward who can operate wide on the right or in the hole, the 28-year-old Real Sociedad man is blessed with exquisite skill and the pace to worry any defence.

Vela has made the most of his ability since joining his current employers in 2011, a move that has seen him grow and improve as a player and become one of their most important assets. He has achieved that status through his goals and tireless work off the ball, continually pressing opposing defenders and looking for space to exploit. In making the trip to Russia, the forward will look to win another international title to go with the trophy he helped lift in Peru 12 years ago.
