The entire FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC) will apply during the FIFA Confederations Cup 2003 (cf. FDC art. 2).

In terms of cautions and suspensions, this means the following:

If a player receives two cautions in two different matches of the same round, he shall be suspended for his team’s next match (FDC art. 18 par. 2c).

If a player has received only one yellow card during the first round (group stage), it will not be carried over to the knockout stages (FDC art. 37 par. 2).

Any player who is sent off (instant expulsion or as the result of two cautions received in the same match) shall automatically be suspended for his team’s next match (FDC art. 18 par. 2 and art. 19 par. 4).

Any match suspensions in relation to an expulsion that cannot be served during this competition will be carried over to the first match of one of the following (FDC art. 39):

- Preliminary competition for the Olympic Football Tournaments Athens 2004;
- Preliminary / final competition of the respective confederational championship for national teams;
- Preliminary competition of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™
