Good night from the colourful Fisht Stadium, which hosted a fine evening of football.

Javier Aquino tells the gathered media that "in the first half we played in their style more than ours" and that New Zealand "are very strong mentally and physically". He says El Tri were taken off guard by Wood's goal but that the team rallied at half-time and showed their spirit.

"We played against a team that plays very differently to Portugal, so we had to adjust. And in the end we won... We played very well and I'm proud. It's normal to have hard matches at this level," said Osorio, when asked about the large number of changes between Mexico's first and second contests.

An obviously tense Mexico coach starts the press conference by apologising for his outburst to the New Zealand coaching staff in the fracas that followed Salcedo's injury. He puts the second half improvement of his team down to the change of midfield shape at half-time.

Raul Jimenez spoke to us after the match and revealed Mexico were surprised that New Zealand were so strong - "more than we thought" he admitted.

"Deeply disappointed at the result but an incredible performance," says Anthony Hudson after the match. "We gave them too much time on the ball and too much space at the start of the second half."

An inspirational performance by the All Whites after a nervy, disappointing opener against Russia. It wasn't the win they craved and Anthony Hudson will likely talk of wanting more, but this was a surprising Kiwi team tonight in Sochi that gave as good as it got against Mexico. The OFC champions are now eliminated, but they can hold their heads high after a very entertaining contest.

The silver lining is that they just need a draw against Russia to go through, after the hosts lost earlier against Portugal. But El Tri will probably have to do it without the injured central duo of Hector Moreno and Carlos Salcedo. Let’s see how Osorio adjusts there, and in other areas of the pitch.

Mexico fans are not going to be happy after this performance. The team struggled throughout. There is little else to brag about besides the three points and the team will need to improve tremendously after what we’ve seen today.
