Auckland City have been crowned Oceania champions for the fourth time after edging a 1-0 win in Tahiti against AS Tefana for a 3-1 aggregate victory.

The New Zealand side held a 2-1 victory from the opening leg of the OFC O-League final on home turf a fortnight ago, and settled their nerves with an early goal from Spanish forward Manel Exposito just prior to the interval.

However, the visitors to the Stade Louis Ganivet in Papeete had to endure a tense second period after the dismissal of Alex Feneridis midway through the half, with the Tahitians piling on the pressure in the latter stages.

“I feel sorry for Tefana because I thought they played very well in both matches,” said Auckland coach Ramon Tribulietx. “They were very strong defensively and difficult to play against."

The result means Auckland City will fly the Oceania flag at the FIFA Club World Cup Japan 2012 having featured at the tournament on three previous occasions, including last year.
