All to play for in Africa after first legs

  • Etoile Sportive du Sahel won at home against Al Ahly

  • USM Alger drew versus Wydad Casablanca

  • Results leave second legs wide open

Nothing has been decided after the two first legs of the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League. USM Alger shared the points with Wydad Casablanca and Etoile Sportive could yet regret the away goal they conceded against Al Ahly.

USM Alger 0-0 Wydad Casablanca The Algerians were held at home on Friday 29 September by the compact and well-organised Moroccans, who certainly quietened the locals. Paul Put has three weeks to find solutions for the return leg on Moroccan soil, which is always complicated for USM.

Etoile Sportive of the Sahel 2-1 Al Ahly The Tunisians won the first round against Al Ahly on Sunday 1 October in Sousse. Hubert Velud's men dominated the play and opened the scoring through Alaya Brigui but failed to stretch their advantage. The opportunistic equaliser scored by Saleh Gomaa could have cost the Tunisians dearly for their profligacy, but Mohamed Amine Ben Amor made sure of the victory a few minutes later. However, the away goal could be priceless for the Egyptians in the return match.
