9 days to go: Inter shine, Mazembe make history

TP Mazembe signed off a memorable 2010 for Africa - the continent hosted the FIFA World Cup™ for the very first time - by becoming the only African side to date to reach the FIFA Club World Cup final. Victories against Concacaf kings Pachuca and South American giants Internacional had propelled the Congo DR outfit to the showpiece decider where Inter Milan lay in waiting.

There was to be no fairytale ending for the plucky African underdogs, however, who were unable to keep a certain Cameroonian at bay in the illustrious Italian side’s ranks. Samuel Eto’o rounded off his stand-out tournament with a Man of the Match performance and the adidas Golden Ball as Inter emulated the feat of their city rivals AC Milan, who lifted the trophy three years before.

The FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2019 gets under way on 11 December. Get your tickets here.
