13 days to go: Brazilian dominance continues

A star-laden Barcelona boasting Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Deco and Ronaldinho went to Japan 2006 with ambitions of being world champions for the first time. In the end, however, the European champions came up short.

Internacional continued Brazil’s early dominance of the Club World Cup, following in the footsteps of compatriots Corinthians (2000) and Sao Paulo (2005) by taking home the title. Substitute Adriano Gabiru’s solitary goal in the final ensured the Porto Alegre club capped an unforgettable year after winning their first Copa Libertadores four months previously.

The FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2019 gets under way on 11 December.
