Belarus players celebrate their qualification to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup

FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup history

Paraguay 2019 will be Belarus’s maiden appearance at the Beach Soccer World Cup.

The Road to Paraguay

Belarus sounded a warning to their rivals during the opening group phase of European qualifying by prevailing against Poland (6-3), Lithuania (3-3, PSO 2-0) and Switzerland (2-2, PSO 3-2). After eliminating France (4-1) in the Round of 16, they posted emphatic wins over Portugal (3-2) and Italy (3-3, PSO 3-2) in the second group phase to secure their place in Paraguay. And while their subsequent defeat to Poland (4-3) denied them a place in the final, then bowed out in style by beating Switzerland a second time (6-2) to finish third - this despite only managing to score 3.75 goals per game on average.

Did you know...?

  • With five goals apiece, pivots Anatoly Ryabko and Dzianis Samsonov were the team’s top-scorers in qualifying, accounting for one third of the side’s overall goal tally.
  • Belarus coach Nicolas Alvarado Caporale (Nico) represented his native Spain as a player at seven editions of the Beach Soccer World Cup.
  • Belarus became the tenth European country to qualify for a World Cup in this discipline.
