- They join hosts Paraguay as South American representatives at global finals
- Paraguay 2019 kicks off on 21 November
Brazil and Uruguay reached the final of the 2019 CONMEBOL qualifiers for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup and, in doing so, punched their tickets to Paraguay 2019. The pair will join the hosts as the South American representatives at the tournament later this year.
The first to secure their spot at the global finals were Uruguay, who beat Paraguay 4-3 to book their place for the first time since 2009.
La Celeste, who were trailing 3-2 at the start of the third period, turned it around in the final stretch of the game to win the encounter. Paraguay 2019 will mark Uruguay’s sixth Beach Soccer World Cup.
Meanwhile, five-time world champions and reigning kings Brazil recorded a dominant 9-3 victory over Argentina to seal their place at the world finals. Paraguay 2019 will mark Brazil’s tenth appearance at the Beach Soccer World Cup.
The South American final will be contested between Uruguay and Brazil on Sunday 5 May at the Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, while Paraguay and Argentina will make up the match for third place.
The 2019 Beach Soccer World Cup kicks off on 21 November in Asuncion, Paraguay with 16 teams vying for the global title.
