Portugal are all but through to the quarter-finals at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Ravenna/Italy after securing an emphatic 5-0 win over Argentina.

The Portuguese, boosted by the scoring prowess of Madjer and a crushing defeat of El Salvador in their first match at these finals, found their way through a gritty Argentinian defence to take a comfortable lead in Group B.

Argentina sat back, doing little to hide their intention of a defensive approach, but a mistake in the third minute opened things up for Madjer, who hit a superb volley to put Portugal one up on the South Americans.

Things got worse for the Argentinians in the second period, with the merciless Madjer firing home a free-kick for his second, while Belchior hammered in a right-footed volley from the left flank before Madjer troubled goalkeeper Cesar Mendoza once more with another free-kick goal.

However, Madjer was not done yet, as he topped off a fine outing for the Portuguese with a fourth in the third period, coolly chipping his chance into the back of the Argentinians' net.

Portugal will face Oman on Tuesday 5 September, while Argentina are set for a tough battle against El Salvador the same day.
