FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed his deepest condolences at the passing of Switzerland international Florijana Ismaili.

The 24-year-old player of the Young Boys Bern women’s team passed away following a swimming accident.

“I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear the news about Florijana Ismaili. This is an extremely sad moment for all the football community, particularly at a time when we gather at the FIFA Women’s World Cup”, said FIFA President Gianni Infantino

“On behalf of FIFA and myself, I would like to express the most heartfelt condolences to Florijana’s family and friends, to the Swiss Federation and to BSC Young Boys.”

Ismaili played for Young Boys Bern since 2011. In January 2014 she played her first of 33 international matches for Switzerland. Most recently she played for the Swiss national team in Serbia on 14 June.
