Today, 24 January 2014, FIFA President Blatter is due to open the XXII Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Cup as part of his three-day visit to St. Petersburg.
The U-21 national teams of Belarus, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan will participate in the historic tournament, which will be hosted at the Sports Complex Peterburgsky, with the final taking place on 2 February.
FIFA President Blatter, who has been present at all previous editions of the CIS Cup, will also meet with the 12 participating member associations in order to discuss football development matters in the region.
The CIS Cup was first played in 1993. Russia’s U-21 national team are the current title holders.
