Bangkok Hospital Medical Centre (BMC) and the College of Sports Science and Technology at Mahidol University have been accredited as the first FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence in Thailand and the ASEAN region since early this year.
On Monday 28 May, FIFA’s Chief Medical Officer Professor Jiri Dvorak presented the certificates to Dr. Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth, the Group CEO and President of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited, Dr.Chatree Duangnet, the CEO of BMC and Associate Professor Sirirat Hirunrat, the Deputy Dean of CSST.
"We are proud, honoured and privileged to be part of the worldwide network of FIFA Medical Centres in this region,“ said Dr. Prasarttong-Osoth.“It will encourage both BMC and CSST to continue our collaboration in the development in the field of Football Medicine."

Thailand’s vice-minister of Tourism and Sports, His Excellency Mr. Sombat Kuruphan acted as the Chairman of the Inauguration Ceremony which saw FIFA Executive Committee member Worawi Makudi and FIFA Medical Committee member Dr. Gurcharan Singh in attendance. Also present were over 100 invited guests from the football family, the sporting world and representatives of the Thai football media.
The deputy hospital director, Dr. Paisal Chantarapitak outlined the criteria which had been met, namely: Clinical Expertise with multidisciplinary approaches, team physician experience, prevention, education, research and football events management.
Professor Dvorak also emphasised the objectives and aims of the worldwide network of FIFA Medical Centres of Excellence, which are to improve the healthcare of football players at every single level of the game through knowledge. He also stressed the importance of football as a safe and healthy leisure activity.
