Blatter opens House of Football

FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter was in Moscow on 25 January 2008 to unveil Russia's new association headquarters, made possible thanks to the provisions of the Goal Programme in Russia.

After being welcomed at the airport by Russian Football Association President Vitaly Mutko, President Blatter made his way to the heart of Moscow to inaugurate the brand new building, which constitutes the country's second Goal project. "It's a large and beautiful headquarters, corresponding perfectly with a great football nation," stated Joseph S. Blatter, who shared his hope that the new building will also help Russia's youth. "Thanks to the success of this project, you are at the dawn of a new era. It is up to you to use it and develop it further."

It proved to be a typical Russian winter's day, marked by snow and blizzards, but the country's football family had been kept warm by all the preparation that went into unveiling the new House of Football. Nothing could chill the atmosphere on a historic day for the sport in Russia, and the FIFA President even interpreted the weather as a positive sign, telling the assembled journalists that, "the snow falling from the sky comes as a sort of blessing for Russia's new football headquarters." Before leaving the city, after a splendid party to commemorate the event, Joseph S. Blatter met with the mayor of Moscow, Yury Luzhkov.
