UniSport Sports Medicine Centre, Auckland, New Zealand

FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence

Axis and UniSports Sports Medicine Centre is an accredited FIFA Centre of Excellence for the treatment of all sports injuries and is located in University Park, St Johns, Auckland. We have a secondary site on Auckland’s North Shore. We take a multi-disciplinary approach to the treatment of sports injuries with a raft of different specialists onsite, including sports physicians, sports orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, massage therapists, and podiatrists. With such a diversity of specialists under the same roof, it is easy to coordinate the whole process of injury diagnosis, surgical intervention if needed and, most importantly, top-quality rehabilitation. This rehabilitation is enhanced by our close liaison with the University of Auckland’s exercise physiologists and conditioners, which allows a transition into the laboratory testing and gymnasium setting.

The Sports Medicine Department offers all facets of base-line examinations for athletes, including football players. This also entails the management of injuries and appropriate education for prevention. The Orthopaedic Surgery Department specialises primarily in the diagnosis and treatment of knee, ankle and shoulder injuries. We work closely with New Zealand’s leading sports cardiology group.

We pride ourselves on having the most comprehensive quality service available in New Zealand for the treatment of sports injuries and look forward to offering this care to all our football clients. While football injuries make up a large part of our work, recreational athletes of all kinds can also expect the same level of care as our country’s top performers.

Axis and UniSports Sports Medicine is also a clinical teaching and research facility. Our medical specialists are respected lecturers and speakers in their particular fields and we are proud to be associated with the teaching departments of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at the University of Auckland, and the Faculty of Health Studies of the School of Physiotherapy at the Auckland University of Technology.

We have an ongoing commitment to the orthopaedic teaching of fourth year medical students from the University of Auckland, and also provide clinical attachment opportunities for medical doctors undertaking the Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Medicine.

Our research activities are continuously growing. In addition, we welcome the opportunity to collaborate with other sports or health-related organisations in new and challenging clinical research projects.
