Reforms and football development focus of FIFA President’s visit to Paraguay

The ongoing implementation of reforms at FIFA and CONMEBOL and the promotion of football development in South America were at the core of discussions during the initial stage of Gianni Infantino’s first visit to South America as FIFA President.

The journey kick-started with a visit to CONMEBOL’s headquarters in Luque (Paraguay) where President Infantino held talks with CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez before meeting with President of Paraguay Horacio Cartes at Asuncion’s presidential residence.

"FIFA and CONMEBOL have been facing a very difficult situation following the events of the past months. However, we are both committed to the implementation of the necessary reforms to ensure that we regain the trust of our key stakeholders and serve football in the best possible way,” said President Infantino.

The FIFA President will move on to Montevideo on Tuesday where he is set to attend the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ qualifying match between Uruguay and Peru.
