Gianni Infantino and Indonesia’s Minister of State-Owned Enterprises meet in Doha
The meeting follows the tragic events at the Kanjuruhan Stadium on 1 October
Mr Infantino and Mr Thohir discussed collaborative measures moving forward to help the situation
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has held talks with Indonesia’s Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, following the tragic events that followed a match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya, in which 125 people lost their lives on 1 October. President Infantino and Mr Thohir used to the meeting, which took place in Doha, Qatar, to reflect on the tragic events, and to identify potential effective collaborations between FIFA, the Asian Football Confederation, and the Football Association of Indonesia – to work together to ensure no such tragedies can occur again in the future. Following news of the disaster, President Infantino released a statement in which he described the events of 1 October as a “dark day for all involved in football”.
