Doha has undergone a transformation in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup™
FIFA President Gianni Infantino met the Prime Minister of Qatar, His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani on Sunday, to visit infrastructure built in central Doha for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, which kicks off on November 20 and will be the first to be held in the Arab world. The visit included several points in central Doha and the waterfront promenade area known as The Corniche, which extends for seven kilometers along Doha Bay and is a popular tourist and leisure attraction. “I am pleased to have closely seen these infrastructures, and I am reassured by how prepared Qatar is to host the biggest sporting event on earth. I am sure that the fans will have a wonderful and unique experience here, extending beyond matches, thanks to everything that Qatar has to offer,” said the FIFA President.
During the FIFA World Cup, free dedicated shuttle buses will run around a loop in central Doha to provide easy access to events, activities and the FIFA fan festival. On Friday, the stunning, state-of-the-art Lusail stadium staged a full-scale test event which was attended by FIFA President as Al Hilal, champions of Saudi Arabia, beat Egyptian Premier League champions Zamalek 4-1 on penalties, after the match finished 1-1. A crowd of 77,575 fans at the brand new state-of-the-art stadium meant the attendance was a record for a match held in the World Cup host nation.
