The governance reforms approved by the FIFA Congress in May 2016 established the formation of the FIFA Council as a strategic body composed of 36 members plus the FIFA President. According to the FIFA Statutes, at least one of the representatives from each confederation must be a woman.

The FIFA Council members are elected by the member associations during their respective confederations’ congresses. The process of appointing the members is an ongoing one, and the graphics above illustrate the composition of the FIFA Council at the time of their meeting in October 2016.
