CONMEBOL congress addresses way to strengthen national teams and local clubs

FIFA President Gianni Infantino addressed the 70th Ordinary Congress of CONMEBOL on Wednesday 10 April and celebrated the recent changes in the administration of the confederation and its associations. According to him, South American football has again placed the game as its number one priority, while also implementing governance reforms and creating new tournaments.

"With pride and looking you in the eyes I can say that in this administration transparency reigns", said CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez during his speech. "In three years, coming from 70 million dollars in ticket revenues, I can proudly say that we will surpass 500 million dollars, and that 94 per cent of that will be re-invested into South American football."

"South America is the continent of football, flair and passion," said Infantino. "At the CONMEBOL congress, we looked back at the reforms implemented and stressed the importance of further developing the national teams and investing in grassroots programmes. Some of the best players in the world are South American, and they should also be playing for clubs here and winning the Club World Cup with them," said Infantino.

The CONMEBOL Annual Report, General Balance for the 2018 fiscal year and the Statement of Income and Expenses were approved unanimously by the congress, together with the Internal and External Audit reports and the Compliance, Audit and Finance Commissions. For more information, visit CONMEBOL.com.
