Once again, top teams from Asia, South America, Europe and Zurich are competing at the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup in Zurich on 8 and 9 May 2002.

This year's edition is symbolically labelled as the "kick-off to the 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM)" as not only prestigious clubs such as Gremio Porto Alegre (defending champions), Boca Juniors, Manchester United or SS Lazio Roma have sent their next generation of young hopefuls but national selections of the World Cup co-hosts Korea (U-20 national team) and Japan (University national team) are also participating.

"Where stars are born" is the slogan of this prestigious competition, traditionally played on the eve of Ascension Day and Ascension Day itself. Looking back on the rich history of the event where the likes of Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, Sir Bobby Charlton, Helmut Haller, Fulvio Collovati and more recently Josep Guardiola and David Beckham displayed their skills, this claim certainly is a most valid one.
