In the wake of FC Zurich’s 5-0 triumph over Botafogo FR in the final of the 75th edition of the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup 2013, FIFA.com spoke to Thierry Ursprung, FCZ custodian and winner of the adidas Golden Glove as the competition’s best goalkeeper.

The shot-stopper’s performances helped his club keep clean sheets in all five of their matches at the international youth tournament, which was held in Zurich. Ursprung even saved a penalty against the Brazilians in the final to preserve his perfect record.

FIFA.com: After two great days for you and your team-mates, what did you make of the tournament?
Thierry Ursprung: It was fantastic for us. We got off to a good start against Zenit [St. Petersburg] and then played well against [FC] Blue Stars. The goalless draw with Manchester United at the end of the first day was very important and we also ended the group stage without conceding. We’re a very good team, we worked well together and that was the key to our success.

You were voted the tournament’s best goalkeeper. What does an individual award like that mean to you?
Obviously I’m delighted to receive such an honour, but it belongs to the whole team. I’m very grateful to my goalkeeping coach, who’s helped me a lot and has worked with me all year. It’s been a lot of fun.

Once again the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup was contested between top international clubs. As a young player, what was it like to be at this tournament?
It’s a very special competition and it was my first time at the Blue Stars Cup. It’s simply a fantastic feeling to play against big teams, it was indescribable.
