USA continue to lead the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women's World Ranking. The only change in the top ten sees England (9th, up 1) swap places with Norway (10th, down 1) after winning their direct duel 3-0, thus leaving the Scandinavians in their worst position since the introduction of the ranking six years ago. Meanwhile, Sweden (4th, unchanged) overcame second-placed Brazil in their recent encounter, but this was only translated into points rather than places. In all, 56 friendlies and qualification matches for the AFC Women's Championship were taken into account in this month's ranking.

Jordan, the Maldives, Uzbekistan, Venezuela and Cuba make a return to the world ranking after having been temporarily excluded from the list due to their inactivity. Conversely, 16 countries that have not played an international match for 18 months have dropped out of the list, leaving the number of teams in this month's ranking at 98.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Women's World Ranking will be published on 25 September 2009.
