Jimmy Greaves scores England’s third goal in their 9-3 rout of Scotland in the final match of the British Home Championship at Wembley, London on 15 April 1961. The 21-year-old striker hit a hat-trick in front of over 97,000 that day, with Bobby Smith and Johnny Haynes grabbing doubles and Bobby Robson and Bryan Douglas also on target for Walter Winterbottom’s men, who duly lifted the trophy. Goalkeeper Frank Haffey never blamed to Scotland again, and attributed emigrating to Australia shortly afterwards to the harrowing result.
