Manchester United’s Eric Cantona acrobatically leaps into the air to make a flick under the gaze of Liverpool centre-back Neil Ruddock in a Premier League game at Old Trafford on 1 October 1995. It was the extroverted Frenchman’s first outing after serving an eight-month suspension, and he set up the opener for Nicky Butt with just two minutes gone. Two brilliant goals from Robbie Fowler – the first a vicious strike, the second a delicious chip - nevertheless sent Liverpool into a 2-1 lead, before Ryan Giggs won United a 70th-minute penalty. Cantona stepped up to take it, and coolly sent goalkeeper David James the wrong way to earn his team a 2-2 draw. The Red Devils, who were 12 points behind Newcastle United in January, ultimately rallied to finish four points clear at the summit that season.
