Varallo died on August 30, 2010 aged 100 years, his family confirmed. Varallo, nicknamed 'Canoncito' (Little Cannon), was on the Argentine team that fell 4-2 to hosts Uruguay in the Final at the Estadio Centenario on July 30, 1930. For many decades he held the record as Boca Juniors' top goal scorer with 194 goals in 222 professional games, a mark that was only beaten by Martin Palermo on March 6, 2008.
