Korea Republic clinched their second East Asian Championship title today after fighting out a 1-1 draw with Japan.

The fierce regional rivals finished the four-nation tournament level on five points and on goal difference. But the South Koreans, winners of the inaugural 2003 event, claimed gold by virtue of goals scored.

Korea Republic had to wait until hosts and defending champions China PR came from behind to beat Korea DPR 3-1 in the final game. It was China's first win. The North Koreans had drawn their first two matches.
