Northern Ireland head coach Nigel Worthington admits he is unsure of his future after his side's heroic effort to reach the UEFA EURO 2008 finals ended in failure. Worthington was only appointed until the end of the qualifying campaign and is yet to agree a new deal with the Northern Irish Football Association.

With the Preliminary Draw to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ taking place in Durban on Sunday, Worthington knows a quick resolution to the situtation is important, but he hinted he will only stay if all his requirements are met.

"It is not a case of walking away, it is a case of things being right for Nigel Worthington and everyone involved," he said. "I have enjoyed the experience but it remains to be seen what happens."

Northern Ireland needed to beat Spain on Wednesday to have any hope of qualifying but they lost 1-0 in Las Palmas. Worthington remained upbeat after his team's odds-defying campaign.

"I think the players and I have bonded and been pleased to be in each other's company. You can see that on the pitch which is the important thing," he said.

"We have worked hard and had fun, but what we've shown over the last three games, it was absolutely magnificent. The team have grown together and I've been thrilled with the campaign."
