Germany captain Philipp Lahm has been ruled out of Wednesday's friendly with France in Bremen with a knee injury.

The German Football Association (DFB) confirmed tonight the full-back had been suffering for the past week with a problem with his right knee.

Lahm, who played for Bayern Munich in today's Bundesliga win over Schalke, has opted to remain in Munich for treatment after consulting with the Bayern and Germany team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt.

The DFB confirmed Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender is a major doubt for the game as well after going off injured in today's win over Hannover.

Bender suffered a suspected broken nose in a clash with Mame Biram Diouf. He was taken to hospital and will undergo further tests tomorrow before a decision is made over his fitness.
