Germany coach Joachim Low welcomed his side's last-gasp friendly draw with Poland last night, hoping it will serve as a wake-up call to his young players.
A 6-2 triumph over Austria last Friday earned Germany their ticket for UEFA EURO 2012 and made Low's team an early favourite for victory next summer.
However, Low felt the euphoria was getting a bit much and believes it will have done his team good not to have beaten Poland in Gdansk. Germany salvaged a 2-2 draw with a goal deep into stoppage time from Cacau.
"I am grateful for games like today," he explained. "I am also thankful that we don't play every game like we did against Austria because I think it is good when we have difficulties, like against Poland. That is good for a young side because then we will be prepared for anything like this during a tournament."
Nevertheless, Low was also grateful that Germany did not lose in Poland. "Of course I am also pleased with the result and that we could grab a draw just before the end," he added.
"It is good that we came from behind twice because this is a learning curve. Now we must learn a few more things because we are still making small mistakes."
Podolski compliments Poland
Germany forward Lukas Podolski, who was born in Poland, felt it had not been such a bad game and that it could so easily have ended in another victory.
"We had plenty of good chances in the first half and, had we scored goals then, this game would have looked completely different," he said. "But you have got to pay Poland a compliment because they fought really well."
Germany complete their EURO 2012 qualifying campaign with a trip to Turkey and a home game against Belgium next month, and will be aiming to continue their perfect record right through to the end of qualifying.
