Houghton calls it quits
Bob Houghton stepped down on Saturday as India coach after five years in the role.
An All India Football Federation statement said the Englishman had decided to quit for personal reasons.
Houghton, whose contract was to run until 2013, guided India to two Nehru Cup international tournament wins in 2007 and 2009, as well as, most notably, the AFC Challenge Cup in 2008.
In January, the former China and Uzbekistan coach guided the world’s second most populace nation to their first AFC Asian Cup appearance for 27 years. India were drawn in a tough group at Qatar 2011 losing against Australia, Korea Republic and Bahrain.
