Prandelli backs Balotelli to shine
Prandelli dropped Balotelli from his squad for today's UEFA EURO 2012 qualifier against Slovenia due to disciplinary reasons. But he says the Manchester City forward is on the right path to eliminating his demons.
"For Mario the important thing is that he thinks about his mistakes," Prandelli told RaiSport. "He's aware of this problem and he's sorry for it, he's asked for help and we will stay close to him to help him with his development."
Prandelli has a vested interest in remodelling Balotelli as he is considered the one great talent to emerge from the current generation of young Italian footballers.
There is a general feeling of despair in Italy that the country is not producing players with the same talent as their illustrious forebears.
"The moment has come for us to have faith in the former greats of our football and learn from them," said Prandelli. "My instruction is to work, work, work and I sincerely believe in rebuilding.
"I don't think it's incredible the huge number of talents that Slovenia are producing, nothing is incredible if you programme and cultivate your ideas about football."
