Faroe Islands defender Atli Gregersen has warned Scotland ahead of their international friendly on Tuesday, stating that his young team-mates are determined to use the match to prove their worth.

The Ross County defender is one of three British-based players in the Faroe Islands squad for the clash in Aberdeen. 18-year-old striker Joan Simun Edmundsson is at Newcastle United and goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen is on loan at Tranmere from Manchester City.

Gregersen believes many Faroe islanders do not get the chances they deserve because they are overlooked by the rest of Europe.

"I don't understand why some of our young players don't have contracts here and around Europe," said the 28-year-old, who spent several years playing in Denmark with the likes of Lyngby.

"Our football system is quite good. We are only 50,000 people but our players are honest and have a similar culture to Britain.

"I'm hoping people will look at our players and give them a chance. We have a lot of raw talent.

"We play football for the love of the game. Sometimes when we go abroad, I don't feel we get the respect we deserve. We have got some results and always play our hearts out. It's like going to war for us," added Gregersen.

Faroe Islands assistant manager John McDonnell agrees that the country's young players could do a job for British clubs and feels the Aberdeen clash is an ideal showcase. "We're trying to get the boys who play in the Faroes out to play at a higher level," said McDonnell, whose team held Northern Ireland to a 1-1 draw in a UEFA EURO 2012 qualification match last month.

"This game and the last one were live on TV so that's good for the profile. We have a lot of young players coming through, a lot of older players are retiring. We have nine players who are under 21. The under-21s beat Russia last year and the under-19s drew with Croatia recently.

"You look at the likes of (Eidur) Gudjohnsen coming out of Iceland. I think that could happen from the Faroes in the coming years.

"Edmundsson down at Newcastle looks a really good prospect. Clubs should take a chance on some of the players, it's not a huge investment. They are honest players, physically in good condition, with a great attitude and strong temperament," added the Irish Assistant.
