Van Bommel content with victory
The beaten FIFA World Cup™ finalists made it three wins from three in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying Group E thanks to Klaas Jan Huntelaar's first-half effort.
A wider margin of victory had been predicted but although van Bommel conceded the match could have been put to bed earlier with a second goal, he remained content.
"At 2-0 the match would have been over," said van Bommel. "We played a very good game and we had opportunites but we triumphed with one goal. We were not in danger but you must always be careful when it stands at 1-0. I'm not unhappy."
The Netherlands set up differently for the match, with manager Bert van Marwijk dropping Nigel De Jong due to concerns over his aggressive tackling and replacing him with the more artistic Rafael van der Vaart.
"The change was tough, but I thought that Wesley (Sneijder) and Rafael ran well between the lines. We got Klaas free a few times despite Moldova's six defenders."
