Luxembourg picked up their first point in Group D of the UEFA EURO 2012 qualifiers as they frustrated ten-man Belarus in a goalless draw.

Despite plenty of chances in the match, Belarus came no closer than a Sergei Kornilenko shot that struck the post, and their challenge was dimmed when the same player saw red for a reckless tackle with 20 minutes to go.

Belarus began brightly, but Kornilenko fired over in the second minute and Sergei Omelyanchuk then saw his shot blocked by Eric Hoffman. There were chances at the other end for Luxembourg, but neither Charles Leweck or Tom Laterza were able to trouble Yuri Zhevnov.

Aurelien Joachim then wasted another chance for the hosts but it was Belarus who looked the more menacing. Timofei Kalachev's cross found Kornilenko in a good position but for the second time in the game he could not keep his shot down.

It was Luxembourg who were on top early in the second half, but Joachim's effort was held by Zhevnov and Leweck was off-target. Kornilenko then struck the post with an effort from the edge of the area and Sergei Kislyak's shot moments later was blocked by Jonathan Joubert.

Belarus continued to push, but Joubert was able to parry Vyacheslav Hleb's shot. The game took a turn in the 69th minute when Kornilenko felled Guy Blaise and was shown a straight red card. However, the visitors still had chances to win it.

Igor Shitov had an ambitious dig from long range that did not trouble Joubert, but Aleksandr Kulchiy's effort was more serious and the goalkeeper had to produce a good parry to keep it out. The last chance of the night went to the hosts, but Zhevnov was not seriously troubled by Daniel Da Mota's left-footed drive.
