Van Marwijk rings the changes
Ryan Babel, Stijn Schaars and Edson Braafheid have been dropped from the Netherlands' squad for the opening UEFA EURO 2012 qualifiers against San Marino and Finland next month. Oranje coach Bert van Marwijk has omitted the trio due to their lack of club football as part of sweeping changes to the party which lost to Spain in the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ Final.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Andre Ooijer and Sander Boschker have retired from international football, while Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has a hamstring injury.
"I have not called on Babel and Braafheid due to a combination of last season and the recent situation at their clubs," Van Marwijk said. "Edson hardly played last season and it is not looking any better at the moment, and that is the same for Ryan."
The Netherlands visit San Marino on 3 September, before hosting Finland four days later.
